Mandurah Triathlon Club Results 2007-2008

Results for Race 3, 6th January

Troy Main's strong performances in all three triathlon legs enabled him to defeat a strong field of 46 contestants to win the third event of the season in the Mandurah Triathlon Club Summer Series. He emerged from the 300 metre swim holding a substantial 37 second margin from Leigh Willison, and he was able to increase this margin to 87 seconds during the cycle before adding another 7 seconds to the margin at the end of the run, crossing the line in the very good time of 39:46, a substantial 1 minute 46 quicker than his previous best. Leigh Willison, a consistent performer, worked hard all the way around the course, finishing with a time of 41:20, shaving 6 seconds off his previous best time, 68 seconds in front of Mike Strickland, an improved triathlete, who achieved the good time of 42:28.

Conditions were near perfect, although a north east breeze hindered attempts to maximise speed on the downhill section of the cycle leg. Jenelle Crooks, with a time of 46:38, performed strongly in all three legs to become the first female to complete the race, with hard working Carina Costello finishing 38 seconds behind her with a time of 47:16, achieving a personal best over this course by some 48 seconds in the process. Sandy Harvey also toiled earnestly all the way around the course to become the third female across the line in 54:03, achieving the satisfaction of slicing more than a minute and a half from her previous best time.

On a day where most competitors found it difficult to improve upon past performances, Brett Criddle, with a strong bike leg, took a minute from his previous best time and David Vittiglia, Shane Coumbe and John Gow achieved the satisfaction of improving by well over a minute and a half. Stacey Rosentreter bettered her previous best time by almost three minutes and Blake Lee achieved the distinction of going under 50 minutes in his first attempt at going the full distance; he put in a consistent effort in all three legs of the race, winning his age group in the time of 49:38.

Good to see Ted Mac Neal coming back after injury and achieving a time which was only 1:21 outside his best, and Jarad Oliffe, who was only 1:43 from his previous best time. Welcome to Sean Griffiths, Martin Ball, Paul Ellis, Jason Lee, Amanda Adams, Kirsty Sinnot and Alexis Denness who achieved the goal of completing the course for the first time, setting their respective benchmarks in the process, and well done to Justin Amos, who acquitted himself well in completing the senior swim and cycle and a 1 lap run.
