Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the Mandurah Triathlon Club
19/12/2009
As another year winds to an end, the 2009/10 season winds up for the Mandurah Triathlon Club. Merry Christmas to everyone, we wish you all the best for the festive season and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
As more people move around over the holidays and traffic increases, remember we share the road with rather unforgiving vehicles. Always be cautious/aware when out training on the roads. We want everyone to have a safe New Year.
Don't forget the first race for 2010 is just 2 days after New Years Day.
Train safe & Merry Christmas.
Splash & Dash will break for 2 weeks over Christmas

11.10.2009 Kona Ironman World Championships
If you are a triathlete, there is no bigger day in this sport than the Ford Ironman World Championship. It is the race that defined our sport as it came of age, and continues to be the defining race in our sport for any avid triathlete.
To get to the starting line in Kona, you must either be very lucky and get yourself a spot through the lottery, or very talented, and win yourself a qualifying spot at one of the qualifying events held around the world. Our very own Dave and Michelle Boyes are just that, very talented, continuing to produce outstanding performances in the greatest test of endurance known to our sport. Congratulations from the Mandurah Triathlon Club on a great result in the Kona Ironman World Championship

22.01.09 Cyclists Injured in Local Accidents
Recently, two club members were involved in local cycling accidents involving cars. One occurred during a local training ride in a group and another during a local triathlon. The athletes were lucky not to sustain major injuries however it could have been a lot worse. Whilst in both cases the driver of the car was at fault, it really hits home the need to be constantly alert while on the roads. We share the road with the cars and we need to be ever vigilant whilst cycling on them. As has been demonstrated in these accidents we can do everything right and still end up closer to the black stuff than we would like.
Below are a few simple things YOU can do as a rider to minimise the likelihood of an accident;
- Always be aware of the traffic flow around you
- Wear brightly coloured/visible clothing
- Make eye contact with turning cars or cars entering your line/lane
- Be obvious on the road by signaling and sitting up through intersections
- Don't assume a driver will read your mind. If unsure, slow until you know what they are doing.
- ALWAYS ASSUME THEY MAY NOT HAVE SEEN YOU.
Taking note of these simple steps will help ensure your ride is a safe ride.
Safe Training,
Elliott
