Mandurah Triathlon Club Trystars & Junior Program

 TRYstars is an introduction   into the sport of triathlon for Juniors. The program focuses on fun and enjoyment while teaching the fundamentals of triathlon. TRYstars allows juniors to develop their  skills and fitness in a fun non-competitive environment while being with  friends and making new friends.

Triathlon is: Swim, Bike, Run
Splash  ‘n’ Dash is: Swim then Run
Duathlon is: Run, Bike, Run

Our TRYstars program

 Our TRYstars is a 3 month program running from December to March. The TRYstars take part in a  structured training session each Friday night that runs for approx 60 minutes  from 5pm.

The session includes a warm-up and games and skill development followed by a ‘Splash  & Dash” which is a swim then run.

The TRYstars  also have the opportunity  to take part in 2 Mandurah and 3 Rockingham junior triathlons over the 3 months and 2 additional skill development sessions held for the bike and the swim.

The TRYstars program is structured similar to Vac Swim whereby during the program the children are assessed against certain criteria based on  their age. They are awarded at presentations at the end of the season for  achieving the particular level and also for participation throughout the  program.

Who can be a  TRYstar?

If you have an interest in swimming, biking or running or  all 3 then why not give TRYstars a go!!

If you are between  7  – 11 you can become a registered TWA TRYstars member,

If you are 5 or 6 you can  participate with your parent

Minimum  requirements
Must be able to Swim 50m
Ride a bike.
Be able to listen to and follow  instructions

Bike Tips

Here are some helpful tips for your to enjoy riding your bike

· Make sure that your helmet is free from cracks and fits correctly before you go for a ride

· If you can fit a waterbottle to your bike in case you get thirsty while you are out riding

· Make sure that your tyres are pumped up and do not have punctures

· Check that your breaks are working

· Take your bike to a local bike store for a check if you are unsure of the condition of your bike

· If you are riding in the late afternoon make sure that you wear bright clothing so that cars see you

· If you have sunglasses wear them so you protect your eyes

· Practice with a parent or friend the transition skills you have learned

· Plan a course before you take off so you and your parents know where you are riding, even better take your parents with you and you can   all have fun together

· Make sure that you ride on a safe surface, if on a road lookout for dangers including cars, potholes, loose surfaces and other road   users

· Make sure you know how far and where you have to ride on the day of an event. Practice this distance so you are ready on the day
